To keep classical theater alive in ourselves, in our schools, and in our community by presenting professional productions with top flight actors, by training the next generation of theater artists in classical performance technique, and by sharing the inherently educational value of classical theatre with our local schools and the people of our community.
We fulfill our mission by researching, exploring, reading, workshopping, and producing classical plays as well as contemporary plays with classical or period themes, style and language, and by sharing the fruits of this work with the general public, with professionally-bound theatre students, and with general-education students from universities and secondary schools, through performances, workshops, classes, and seminars.
The permanent company, numbering roughly 100 members, meets regularly for study and ongoing training and workshops. The Antaeus Academy trains young, emerging professional actors in classical theater. A hallmark of our work is the long-term study and investigation which precedes full production.
Because the results of these studies are shared not only with audiences in our full productions, but -- through outreach and cooperative projects -- with local schools and educators, we expose students to the enduring themes of dramatic literature, the challenging disciplines of theatre research and performance, and the social and cooperative skills necessary to be part of a healthy and effective ensemble.
