COCKTAILS AND CANAPES!
FACSIMILE SCRIPT OF COWARD'S ORIGINAL
FOR "THE BETTER HALF" !

SHADOW PLAY
Victoria and Simon Gayforth have agreed to divorce – it’s the civilized and sensible thing to do.  But Victoria accidentally takes an overdose of sleeping pills and plunges into a feverish musical-comedy dream of their past happiness.  She begins to realize how it all began to go wrong, and how doing the “civilized and sensible” thing may actually be a big mistake. A unique one-act musical featuring the songs "THEN," "PLAY, ORCHESTRA, PLAY," and "YOU WERE THERE."

WAYS AND MEANS
Toby and Stella Cartwright are having a run of hard luck: they've worn out their welcome as guests at Olive Lloyd-Ransom’s lavish villa on the Riviera, and despite their fashionable appearance, the couple is flat broke and about to run out of options.  Then a golden opportunity presents itself which has only one drawback:  it’s against the law.  Will Toby and Stella rise to the challenge and do the right thing?

AND THE NEWLY REDISCOVERED "LOST" COWARD ONE-ACT
THE BETTER HALF
Alice and Marion are best friends with a lot in common, including Alice's faultlessly noble husband, David. At first it seems that Alice is a wronged wife who must fight to save her marriage... but we soon learn that she has another plan in mind. A darkly hilarious and sophisticated take on the eternal triangle, a play lost since its first production in 1923 and only discovered again in 2007. Thanks to the Noel Coward Society, Antaeus will present the first American performance of this brilliant play.
