THE DICKENS PROJECT by Janet Dulin Jones and Paul Lazarus
Advanced staged reading directed by Paul Lazarus.
First public exhibition of a project on which the Antaeus Company and the Academy Company have been collaborating for the past year: Young journalist Charles Dickens uncovers a dark conspiracy of arson and murder in the chaotic world that was London in the 1830s. A sprawling epic with 35 actors portraying more than130 characters, THE DICKENS PROJECT is a two-part presentation with a special starting time on Marathon Weekends, with food and drink provided at the break, with a special gala fundraiser performance at Pasadena’s beautiful new Boston Court theater.
COLLABORATORS by Jonathan Lynn
Advanced staged reading directed by Jonathan Lynn.
Writer/Film Director Lynn’s new play tells the story of French titans Charles de Gaulle and Marshall Petain, and their personal and professional relationship through two world wars. A fascinating drama of friendship and rivalry between the two giants of 20th Century France, set for its World Premiere in London this fall. With Antaeans John Achorn, John Apicella, Terry Evans, Harry Groener, Jeanie Hackett, Dakin Matthews, Jeffery Nordling, Philip Proctor, and guest artist Robin Gammel.
AMERICAN BUFFALO by David Mamet
Advanced staged reading directed by Stephanie Shroyer.
Three of Mamet's most colorful losers, Teach, Donny and Bobby, negotiate the world of petty crime; the sale of a possibly valuable buffalo-head nickel in a junk shop leads these three small-timers to more ambitious acts of theft. Along the way they share their philosophies of life, their dreams of better days, their code of honor, their shrewd negotiating tactics, their creative accounting - everything that makes American business what it is today. With Antaeans Tony Amendola and John Apicella, Russell Soder, and a special guest artist.
TWO NEW ONE-ACT AMERICAN MUSICAL ADAPTATIONS:
BARTLEBY, THE SCRIVENER book and lyrics by Ken Stone, music by Jan Powell
Concert presentation directed by Michael Lilly.
Herman Melville's classic tale of the enigmatic Bartleby, whose mere presence brings chaos to the orderly ways of an office, putting its proprietor on a path toward either destruction or salvation. With Richard Miró, Philip Proctor, Trevor Murphy, Connor Kelly-Eiding, and guest artist Raul Staggs.
A GHOST IN MY OWN GARDEN, music and lyrics by Matthew Goldsby, book and lyrics by Scott Guy
Concert presentation directed by Soren Oliver.
Inspired by a story by A.E. Coppard. A haunting tale of a man lost in his own front yard. With Meaghan Boeing, Emily Chase, Trevor Murphy, Erin Shaver, and guest artist Brian Lohmann.
DON JUAN by Tirso de Molina in a new rhyming verse translation by Dakin Matthews
Reading directed by Anne McNaughton
Women enjoyed and destroyed by the famous rogue of Seville. Founding Artistic Director and N.Y. Drama Desk prizewinner (for his adaptation of the Henry IV plays), Dakin Matthews has crafted a delightfully bright new English version of this timeless classic from the Spanish Golden Age. With a cast of Antaeans and Guests to be announced.
THE ACADEMY COMPANY -- the young Antaeans present three exciting projects:
NORA by Henrik Ibsen, adaptation by Ingmar Bergman. Directed by Jane Fleiss Brogger.
TWELFTH NIGHT by William Shakespeare. Directed by Matthew Henerson.
POEMS IN MY POCKET: a late-night poetry cabaret. Conceived and directed by Jeanie Hackett.
