ANTAEANS (guest artists follow)

John Achorn (Co-Director of Mercadet, Goulard) Director of Craig Shoemaker's acclaimed Who's Your Daddy (Coronet Theatre), Tall Tales… (Children's Theatre Company of Minnesota), commedia dell'Arte shows at UCLA and UC Riverside, director of all Antaeus' commedia work. As an actor, appeared in Antaeus' The Wood Demon at the Taper, Master Class at the Taper, La Béte at the Ford, and The Admiral of Bolivia for A.S.K. Film & TV: Born Yesterday, The Book of Love, and Bailey Kipper's P.O.V. (series regular).

John Apicella (Executive Producer, Goulard, The Patient, Surtees, Juror) last appeared with Antaeus in The Man Who Had All The Luck. Other Antaeus shows: The Liar, Patience, and the Antaeus / Taper production of The Wood Demon. Also recently: Glengarry Glen Ross and The First Picture Show at ACT in San Francisco. For the Taper: West Coast premières of Vaclav Havel's Temptation and Largo Desolato. John is co-creator and Majordomo of The Bubalaires.

Scott Allegrucci (Minard) trained at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. While in New York he worked at The Public Theatre and played errant youths in a couple of ABC After School Specials and one of the libidinous youngsters at the heart of the feature film The Feud. Regionally, Scott has worked at The Old Globe Theatre, The Phoenix Theatre, Frontera and The Smokebrush Theater - where he also directed, adapted, and taught.

Gigi Bermingham (Deputy, Plaintiff's Posse) Theatre: Henry V (Globe), Riga (Inside the Ford), Twelfth Night (NY Shakespeare Festival), House of Blue Leaves (Alliance Rep Co.), Dressing Room (Circle Rep Lab), Strictly Improv (1st Amendment), Crimes of the Heart (Nehru Auditorium, Bombay), Masquerade (Aruba). Dean Cameron (Costume Designer) is a graduate of CalArts, and has worked as an artist, costumer, and set designer for twenty-five years. He recently designed a Hamlet-based on the paintings of Magritte-for the Nevada Shakespeare Festival, and a production of Tina Howe's The Museum at the Globe Theatre in LA. Dean is also designing the "Gallery of Angels" mural for Antaeus' new theatre and designed the set and costumes for its recent production of Alarcón's The Liar.

Emily Chase (Director of Divorce Court Hell, The Plaintiff) Acting credits include: She Stoops to Folly at South Coast Rep, Country Matters at Taper,Too, The Liar and Patience with Antaeus; Trojan Women at the Getty, The Dybbuk with The Wilten Project , and Pericles (Drama-Logue award). Directing credits include: Elizabeth the Queen, Othello and Trelawney of the Wells with CTL, and The Universal Language at the Raven Playhouse. Emily thanks Dakin, John, and her whole Antaeus family for everything.

John Combs (Robert Devizes, Foreman of the Jury) moved to LA 2 years ago. In Los Angeles, he originated the role of Israel Slotin in Louis Slotin Sonata with Circle X Theatre Company, and appeared with The Antaeus Company in The Man Who Had All The Luck. His television credits include extensive legal experience on Law and Order, The District, Family Law and Judging Amy.

Robert Cornthwaite (Translator of Mercadet) Before his retirement from the stage, he appeared with many of the country's major regional theatres, including the Ahmanson, South Coast Rep, Pasadena Playhouse, and La Jolla Playhouse. He appeared in a number of films, including the original sci-fi thriller The Thing and more recently Matinee. He guested frequently on television and was a regular on Picket Fences. Mr. Cornthwaite is also a director, and as a translator, specializes in Pirandello and French comedy.

Ralph Drischell (Père Violette) Over a 48 year career he has played 263 roles including 24 on Broadway, 54 Shakespearian, 45 in film and TV and the rest in regional and stock theatre. With the Antaeus Company he was in Of Mice And Men and The Liar, and has participated in numerous play readings.

Terry Evans (Producer, Set Designer, Technical Director, Tommy Lee, Juror) Antaeus credits include The Man Who Had All The Luck and Patience; The Angels of Lemnos and The Merchant of Venice for The Road Company; Denial, Cantorial, The Long Goodbye, and others for Actors' Alley. He's appeared in television and film, is an award-winning set designer, and was project manager and design consultant for the El Portal Theatre, a position he will hold for New Place Theatre Center, future home of The Antaeus Company.

Martin Ferrero (Pierquin) appeared in the Antaeus production of Of Mice And Men. His film credits include The Tailor of Panama, Jurassic Park, Gods and Monsters, Get Shorty, Oscar, and Planes Trains & Automobiles. He has appeared in such television shows as The Practice, Miami Vice, Hill Street Blues, and Cheers. He began his career with the California Actors' Theatre in Los Gatos, California.

Tamara Krinsky (Julie) LA Theater: The Man Who Had All The Luck with Antaeus; Does This Woman Have a Name?, Polaroid Art, Psychology (Theater Tribe); Six Degrees of Consequences (Powerhouse Theater); Three Sisters (Theater X). Chicago: Schoolhouse Rock Live!, Ready for the River, Amber Waves, Offending the Audience (directed by Frank Galati). Jason Kuykendall (Mericourt ) is new to Los Angeles. He has appeared in many productions in his home state of Arizona, where he received many wards for his acting. His favorite roles include, Edmund in Long Days Journey Into Night, And Edgar in King Lear, both of which were directed by Marshall W. Mason. He can be seen this summer on Fox Family's State of Grace.

Anne McNaughton (Director of The Will, Trial by Jury) most recently directed Twelfth Night for Mount St. Mary's College, The Liar for Antaeus, and Collected Stories for the Globe Theatres. Award-winning productions include Richard III at Berkeley Shakespeare Festival, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf at California Actors Theatre, and Artichoke at Berkeley Stage. A founding member of the Acting Company, she taught, directed and acted at the American Conservatory Theatre, earned a BFA from Juilliard (Group One) and an MA in Theatre from Stanford.

Anna Mathias (Singing Lawyer, The Nurse, Deputy ) is an award-winning actress and UC Berkeley graduate. Her most recent Antaeus appearances were in Patience and Robin, Polished by Love. She's also performed at San Diego Rep., Pasadena Playhouse, ACT, Westwood Playouse, Mark Taper Forum and the Royal Court in London. Recent TV roles include Sister Stephanie in Mother Teresa and St. Anne in Mary, Mother of Jesus. She also adores screenwriting, traveling to offbeat places around the world, and driving her Hybrid.

Dakin Matthews (Executive Producer, Director of Mercadet, Mercadet) Founding Artistic Director of Antaeus, and past Artistic Director of Berkeley Shakespeare Festival and California Actors Theatre, he has directed at the Globe Theatres, A.C.T, and Trinity Rep, among others. Recent stage roles: Capulet (Romeo and Juliet, Ahmanson), Tristán (The Liar, Antaeus), and Falstaff (Merry Wives, Old Globe). His thirty films include Thirteen Days, The Muse, Nuts, and White Mile. He has guested frequently on TV, with regular or recurring roles in twelve different series.

Bill Mendieta (Divorce Court Hell Bailiff, Juror) first appeared with Antaeus in The Man Who Had All The Luck. He's worked with numerous companies, including The Road Theatre; Berkeley and San Jose Repertories; the California, Nevada, and San Francisco Shakespeare Festivals; Will & Company; and El Teatro Campesino. He has done many great roles in new plays and many classic roles such as Hamlet, Benedick, and Berowne. Film credits include: Killer Instinct, Santa's Letters, The Wicked Do Prosper, and Reality Check.

Richard Miró (Singing Laywer, Simon, Defendant) Antaeus credits: The Liar, original workshop of Trial by Jury. Richard has worked extensively in regional theatre such as the Guthrie, Old Globe, San Diego Repertory, Mixed Blood and others. Film credits include Double Take, The Duel. Television appearances include JAG, Star Trek: TNG, Beverly Hills 90210 and others. Richard is a graduate of Cornell University.

Jonathan Nichols (Count de la Brive) LA Theatre: The AmericanWay and Antaeus Production Of Mice And Men, both at the Ventura Court Theatre. Jeffrey Nordling (Philip Ross) NY Theatre: CSC: Don Juan Of Seville directed by Carrie Perloff; The Public: MacBeth directed by George Wolfe; Cymbeline directed by JoAnne Akalaitis; Shakespeare In The Park: Richard III with Denzel Washington. Melinda Peterson (Muriel Fogey, Juror) Regional Theatres: A Streetcar Named Desire, Heartbreak House, State of the Union, Later Life, At the Still Point, New England, The Scandalous Adventures of Sir Toby Trollop, Rumors. Los Angeles: Ladies of the Camellias (Drama-Logue award), The Illustrated Woman (Ovation Award Nomination), Fools Die Fast (Drama-Logue award), Candy and Shelly Go to the Desert (1987 Best of Year Citation). An Antaean since 1991, Ms. Peterson writes and performs radio comedy with her husband Philip Proctor.

Jan Powell (Composer, Legal Briefs music; Musical Director of Trial by Jury, Accompanist) Jan has served as musical director in the professional theatre for over twenty-five years and has conducted over 150 musical productions. He is an ASCAP member and winner of four ASCAP Special Awards. Current stage projects include The Legend of Tom Dooley with his collaborators, Ken Stone and Brenda Lilly.

Lawrence Pressman (The Lawyer, Devizes Senior) Broadway: Play It Again, Sam; Never Live Over A Pretzel Factory, Man in the Glass Booth. Film: The Hellstrom Chronicles, Mighty Joe Young, My Giant, Very Bad Things. LA theatre: Antaeus/Taper production of The Wood Demon; Absurd Person Singular at the Ahmanson. Phil Proctor (Vern, The Judge) has won acting awards off and on Broadway, is a member of the Grammy-nominated Firesign Theatre and presently voices Howard in "Rugrats" and the drunk Monkey in "Dr. Dolittle".

Nicholas Saunders (Méricourt) has appeared in nineteen Broadway shows and hundreds of television programs, but is perhaps best remembered as "Captain Barker" in Phil Silvers' Sgt. Bilko series. He made his Antaean debut in his and Frank Dwyer's translation of Chekhov's The Wood Demon at the Mark Taper Forum. Last year he was in two Antaeus productions: Dakin Matthews' translation of Alarcón's The Liar, and Arthur Miller's The Man Who Had All The Luck at this very theatre.

Janellen Steininger (Divorce Court Judge, Plaintiff's Counsel, Plaintiff's Posse) Antaeus founding member. With the company: The Wood Demon (Taper), A Flaw in the Ointment, Of Mice And Men, Patience. Karen Stone (Serenader, Sennet, Plaintiff's Counsel, Plaintiff's Posse) thought that doing Hamlet and Come Back to the 5 & 10 Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean in New York was cool, but her nephews informed her that appearing in the Aerosmith music video Pink was way cooler. In the heartland of America she has enjoyed playing leading roles in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Camelot, and The Music Man, among others. Recent television appearances include the pilot Blind Men, The X-Files, and recurring on Port Charles.

Marcelo Tubert (Doc, Juror) a busy Theatre, Voice-over, and On-camera actor, is a founding member of the Anteaus Company. He is proud to have played Gus Eberson in last year's Antaeus' award winning production of Arthur Miller's The Man Who Had All the Luc". He appreciates the support of the talented Writer/Director, Lori Tubert, who also happens to be his wife, and his fabulous children, Emily and Sarah.

Rhonda Aldrich (The Nurse, Gilda Slackmeister, Plaintiff's Posse) has appeared Off-Broadway, in numerous regional theatres, and locally at the Mark Taper Forum, South Coast Rep, Odyssey, Court, Celebration, Matrix, and Hudson, among others. Guest spots include Walker, Texas Ranger; Married with Children; Wings; Empty Nest; Star Trek: TNG; and State of Grace. Films include: Welcome Home, Roxy Carmichael; Bob Roberts; and Crocodile Dundee in LA. She is a member of the Classical Theatre Lab, Hidden Theatre, and Matrix Theatre.

Honoré de Balzac (Playwright, Mercadet) After taking a degree in Law, he began writing novels in 1820, completing more than 80 over his thirty year career. His masterwork is the 18-volume classic Comédie Humaine, which includes Père Goriot and Cousin Bette. He moved in the highest Parisian social circles, living constantly beyond his means and writing furiously just to keep his head above water. He wrote five plays, but only Mercadet, produced shortly after his death, was deemed a success.

J.M. Barrie (Playwright, The Will) Scottish novelist and dramatist, Barrie is best known for his lays Peter Pan and The Admirable Crichton. He wrote a number of shorter pieces as well, including The Will, which was first performed in 1913 and published in 1914 as part of a collection entitled Half Hours. He totally avoided any formal study of the Law whatsoever.

Sarah Cathcart (Virginie) has worked with Mabou Mines, Shakespeare & Co., Williamstown, L.A. Women's Shakespeare Co., and at Stanford, where she received a B.A. in theater. This is her second appearance with the Antaeus Company.

Miguel de Cervantes (Playwright, Divorce Court Hell) Best known for his classic Don Quixote, Cervantes was also a playwright and short story writer. His eight interludes (Extremeses), of which Divorce Court Hell is one, were published in 1615, the year before his death. It is not known whether he ever attempted to study Law.

Jennifer Gatti (Julie, Emily Ross, Plaintiff's Posse) Born and raised in New York, Jennifer's career began at the age of 12 with several contract roles on soap operas including Guiding Light. Theatre credits include A Circle (Theater for the New City) and Breaking the Tie (Playwrights Conference @ Princeton). Jennifer's had series regular roles in several pilots and numerous t.v. guest spots including E.R., Star Trek and Cosby. Film credits include Blood Money, Millennium Man, Face to Face and Double Exposure.

W.S. Gilbert (Playwright and Lyricist, Trial by Jury) first created Trial by Jury as a one-page comic poem in Fun Magazine under the pseudonym "Bab." He has authored several comic plays, including Pygmalion and Galatea, Charity and The Palace of Truth. Mr. Gilbert expects to make a few quick bucks off this musical, then turn exclusively to writing legitimate drama, having already failed miserably in his attempt to practice law. He hopes you enjoy Trial by Jury anyway.

Javier Grajeda (Serenader, Juror) A native of LA, Mr. Grajeda's local appearances include: Blade to the Heat (Coast Playhouse), Requiem for a Heavyweight, Zastrossi, One West Wacker (Company of Angels), Kiss of the Spider Woman (Cast Theatre), The Miser (Odyssey Theatre). Outside LA: Lunch (national stock tour), Ghost Dance (Fairbanks Theatre, NYC), Carmen, Indian Queen, Il Tarabrro O Volo de Notte (Long Beach Opera). Also TV, film and commercials. He thanks his family for their love and support.

Michael Clark Haney (Director of The Ambulance Chaser) was recently a Visiting Artist in Theater at Harvard University where he directed an evening of French Farce. He is a member of the Playwright/Directors Unit of the Actors Studio. His Showtime short film Evening Class won the Gold Medal at the New York Festivals and a CableAce Award for Best Actress. His finest productions, running for five years, are Alexander and Angela, created in close association with his wife June Christopher.

Alex Jacobson (Stage Manager) For the past two seasons, Alex has been working with the Mark Taper Forum. Projects include August Wilson's Jitney, and House Arrest. Most recently, he stage-managed Buddy's Gift at the Coronet Studio Theatre. Alex is incredibly delighted to be working with Antaeus for the first time. Many thanks to Sarah and "Buddy."

Emily Johnson (Defendant's Astrologer) won her first Best Actress award playing "George" at the CT Drama Festival, and has been chasing the high ever since. In addition to her training at Tisch (NYU) and with Larry Moss Studio, she is also a versatile spoon hanger and gargler. She is moderately happy to be in LA, thrilled to be working in films and excited to be working with the Antaeans again.

Ben Kamine (Creed, Juror) recently graduated Shalhevet School in L.A. There, he acted in some plays, including The Man Who Came to Dinner (Sheridan Whiteside) and Shakespeare's As You Like It (Touchstone). He is very excited about his acting debut with the Antaeus Company. Thank you Emily Chase for bringing him to acting and to Antaeus. Jens Köhler (Chas Markham, Attorney-at-Law; Juror) is delighted to return to the Antaean Trial by Jury box. A New York City transplant, his credits include Much Ado About Nothing (Long Wharf Theatre), Fury (Leo Films), and many Off-Off-Broadway projects at MCC Theatre, P.S. 122, Sychrontcity Space, and the 78th Street Lab. In Canada he was a performance artist.

Robin D. Lucas (Choreographer, Legal Briefs) Born in Brooklyn and raised in Long Island, Robin's credits include a Broadway Review tour, and a Whitney Houston All Around the World tour. She was a weekly dancer at the legendary Showtime at the Apollo, and has done ten national commercials. She has also choreographed Grease at Jones Beach, New York; The Wizard of OZ in Culver City; and the nationally-televised NAACP Scholarship Awards. Robin strives for excellence and thanks God for her success!

Holly Mitchell (Plaintiff's Posse) This is Holly's first guest appearance with Antaeus. Currently, she is a member of the Open Fist Theatre Company and was also a member of Actors Alley in NoHo for three years. She has trained at the American Academy in Los Angeles as well as the Young Vic theatre in London and the London Studio Centre. Holly is very excited to have been introduced to such a talented and fun company as the Antaeans.

Katie Morgan (Assistant Stage Manager) is happy to be working with Antaeus for a second year. Last spring she served as Production Intern on The Man Who Had All the Luck and feels very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with such talented theater folks on another wonderful show. Katie has performed in community and school productions, studied theatre at Marlborough School, and is an avid swing dancer. This fall, she begins her freshman year at UC Santa Cruz.

Robert Phelps (Justin) Tobias in Albee's A Delicate Balance, Virginia Stage Company. Broadway: O'Neill's The Great God Brown, Hal Prince, Director; Moliere's Don Juan, Stephen Porter, Director. Off Broadway, Off Off Broadway: numerous productions including a year in Weller's Moonchildren. Five seasons with the California Shakespeare Festival. Film credits include: Pirates of Silicon Valley, Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, Sony's Damned If You Do (winner, Hollywood Film Festival). Numerous appearances on sitcoms, dramas, and soaps. BFA in Acting, Carnegie-Mellon University.

Stephanie Stephenson (Plaintiff's Posse) has performed in regional theatres throughout the country, including A Contemporary Theatre in Seattle and a tour for the Utah Shakespeare Festival. Most recently, she performed her original work in So Much To Say at the Soulfire Creative Center, Inc. She has acted locally at the Elephant Theatre and the Eclectic Company Theatre. She is currently preparing for the July production of her original one-woman show Ralupop! at the Elephant Theatre.

Ken Stone (Lyricist, Legal Briefs songs), a playwright, librettist, composer, and lyricist, received his university degree in theatre from UCLA. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild and ASCAP, and winner of four ASCAP Special Awards. Current stage projects include The Legend of Tom Dooley with his collaborators, Jan Powell and Brenda Lilly.

Peter Strauss (Lighting Designer) is an award-winning designer who has worked in LA theatre for over 12 years. Recent credits include the musical Working for the Burbank Little Theatre and Summerfolk at the Raven Playhouse.

Arthur Sullivan (Composer, Trial by Jury) The son of an Irish military musician father and an Italian mother, Arthur's musical talent was recognized very early, saving him from ever having to attempt a career in Law. Composer of such favorites as The Lost Chord, he looks forward to making a quick profit on this show and then returning exclusively to the world of serious music, confident that his true legacy lies therein. He hopes you enjoy Trial by Jury anyway.

Amy Tolsky (Wanda, Plaintiff's Posse) LA Theatre: Nicholas Nickleby, Scream Queens, Man of Mode, and Harvey with Robert Morse. U.K./ Europe: The Misanthrope, Torch Song Trilogy, The Pistols, and Hair. Numerous radio, commercial and voiceover gigs from the BBC World Service to White Castle. Amy keeps busy with the Classical Theatre Lab, Theatre 40 and The Second City.

Katy Tyszkiewicz (Crysta Axle, Plaintiff's Posse) feels very privileged to be working with a group of such fabulous artists. A recent graduate of Loyola Marymount University, Katy earned degrees in both Theatre Arts and English. She has also trained at the Oxford School of Drama. She was last seen playing "Viola," in Twelfth Night with Shakespeare Festival Los Angeles. Other favorite performances include The Vagina Monologues, Ludlow Fair, and The Art of Dining.

Billy K. Wells (Playwright, The Ambulance Chaser) wrote hundreds of headline vaudeville and burlesque acts for the major stars of the early 20th century. For Broadway, he wrote most of the sketches for thirteen editions of George White's Scandals, and he wrote for Milton Berle's famous Texaco show in the infancy of network television. In France, he was known as the "American Moliere." Though not a lawyer himself, he was not averse to hiring one when the need arose.
