The Antaeus CENTER -- a Capital campaign

Our timeline for The Antaeus Center predicts a target move-in date of Fall, 2009. A 12,000 square-foot shell will need to be outfitted as playhouses, rehearsal rooms, offices, and library. In the interim, we will be concentrating on building a permanent staff and enhancing our long-term fundraising and grantmaking resources. Thus our immediate goals are:

  • To provide additional leadership for financial stability and organizational growth.
  • To establish administrative support for the Co-Artistic Directors.
  • To create a production fund supporting an ambitious season schedule.
  • To continue with our capital campaign to complete The Antaeus Center.

Our artistic success in recent years has been acclaimed by press and audiences alike. Our full productions, including The Man Who Had All The Luck, Mother Courage and Her Children, and Pera Palas, have won rave reviews and numerous L.A. Weekly, L.A. Drama Critics Circle and Garland Awards. Most recently, our performances of Seneca’s Phaedra at the Getty Villa sold out within hours. Our workshop festivals - including last year’s ClassicsFest -- presented a dizzying array of readings and workshop productions of new and classic works at affordable prices.

As if this were not ambitious enough, we present readings and workshop presentations on an on-going basis, we provide outreach to middle and high schools, and the Antaeus Academy provides training for the next generation of classical actors.

Antaeus’ future is bright. Our artistic accomplishments have made us Los Angeles’s premiere Classical theater ensemble. The time has come for our administrative strength to match our creative power. With your support we will continue to grow artistically and fulfill our mission of keeping classical theater alive in ourselves and in our community.
